And can we really speak of Africa as a mother? A mother is a person on whom other members of the family are dependent. But isn't Africa rather dependent on the other continents?
"Are there issues in Kenya that have been triggered by British imperialism and still persist until this day? And if that is so, should the British feel guilty about their empire? Or can they be proud of it instead?" This blog is supposed to give you some answers to these questions as well as some insight to basic concepts and ideas about Africa in general. Read the questions and the comments that some Kenyan students have posted. Also have a look at the corresponding links on the right side.

The reason why we refer to Africa as "Mother Africa" is because she is productive. She produces valuable recources: agriculture, minerals such as diamonds and gold,... and we have a lot of tourism here.
But also, you know, "Mother Africa" is an endearing term. We call Africa "Mother Africa" because we want all African countries to feel tied together, to feel related by a strong bond.
africa is a great continent so to speak.the term 'mother africa' serves the term 'caring as a continent'.just as a mother is caring for her kids from birth on, is how africans are expected to live as one nation caring for each other and to fight against colonization. africa the green rich land.
well, the most basic definition of the term mother in a biological sense is "originator". so, yes it still is mother Africa because it's the cradle of mankind. The term, however, is of more relevance to Africans themselves and the people in the diaspora because they can all trace their roots to the continent and especially so in cases where these individuals are of color - in Obama's words: it's a burden that only we could bear!!
Africa for sure is so resourceful - thus the term "mother". Personally i think that Africa has plenty of different things to offer: our rich diverse cultures, the minerals available (gold, diamonds, copper, etc.) and the beautiful and breathtaking sites (e.g. the Great Rift Valley, Congo forest, Victoria Falls etc.). Also when we look at Africa in terms of game, that is the different animals found in our parks and game reserves, it's just amazing. In fact the seventh wonder of the world was discovered in Africa, Kenya. Also in terms of our different traditional foods, Africa is rich.
Africa for sure is our mother!
Mama Africa has
So much love to share
Pure blackness, oneness so rare
So much love to give
And let them know they're missin'out
Mama Africa
So much love to share
Sweet blackness, oneness be there
So much love to care
and let them know they missin' out
Sing again
A
This is for all the love
And the life took away
F
Don't forget we were born in trade
R
ripped from the land and shipped away
I
Is the inspiration we used to survive
C
Have to see it with your own cries
A
Don't play
Add it up and alright

I don't think you can say that Africa is dependent on the world, because the world is a globalised village. Everybody has to rely on one another. You can't live like on an island. And even the great America has to depend on other countries. We get something from them, but they also get a lot from us.
